imperative is a groovy house track with delayed vocal stabs & a sampled female vocal running though with added with 808 clicks, chords & a snapping snare. the system2 remix of imperative is just as cool with a rolling breaky drum loop giving it a 90s house feel, again the vocal leads the track with the groovy bass & chords built around it. first up on the b side once again is a cool groove with sampled vocals & electronic bleeps echoing through the mix. last but not least the juliche hernandez remix of once again has a more 90s feel to it. fast paced with great percussive hits & a chunky bassline to lead, all in all great release aimed firmly at the dancefloor.

here comes another release by echologist aka brendon moeller. brendon did several releases over the year and here comes the next bomb!! these tracks were recorded in autumn of 2016 in brendon’s home studio that is conveniently located in the basement of his home in upstate new york. the tracks were made using a combination of hardware and software. the protocol, well, sync all machines via midi and cv and then jam. once a jam seems to take on a form he multitrack record all elements in ableton and then create a final arrangement and mix down.

full dose is a brand new label operating from glasgow, and for it’s first 12 inch has hired the inimitable talents of none other that rotterdam’s ian martin, under his akhiezer alias. most of you will know martin from his various albums and 12 inches over the years for some of the underground’s most esteemed labels: bunker / panzerkreuz, further, new york haunted & legowelt’s strange life to name a few. for the foch reflection ep, martin delves into his trunk of electronic curiosities to take us on a trip of ambient textures, dark synth work, creeping rhythms and out-there techno / electro jams that are at once arresting and unique!

when umek introduced his moniker zeta reticula at the beginning of the century, he got the following review: “zeta reticula sounds something like a cross between basic channel style minimalism & anthony rothers electro formulas” here the main man does it once again, unleashing four pulsating electro workouts, with more than a little nod to aux 88.

this latest installment in the stroboscopic saga once again calls upon the talents of two label veterans, both having released eps on the label while also contributing to its five-year retrospective series.

delsin records welcomes back dennis van gemert aka area forty_one for a second ep on the label. it is a second part to the nocturnal passions series started back in 2013, and come five years after his first ever release, which was on ann aimee in 2011, once again fusing ambient with techno, downtempo and electro. nocturnal passions part 2 is seven minutes of slithering electro funk. full of twinkling keys and spaced out chords, it has rugged bass and bumpy drums all making you want to move. voyage is then a raw, beat driven yet still brilliantly serene affair with angelic chords, consolation is a comforting, mid tempo tumble through the galaxy with soft focus, rippling melodies and gentle churning kicks and orbiting is a suspensory, fully ambient track that sounds like a slow journey up to heaven. this is teary eyed, emotive stuff that comes from another world entirely.

the second instalment from allisandnot reveals more thumping, deep productions. wc0016 & abono team up once more employing yearning synths and saturated percussion on top of a weighty low end smothered in grit.

technosoul .03 comes from blazej malinowski, who has previously released on swedish phorma and canadian silent season amongst others. “mika” and “open closed open” might serve as blazej s sound signature – deeply rooted, hypnotic techno with a trance edge, which works both on the dancefloor and in comfort of one s home. remix number one comes from the legendary british dj and producer steve bicknell, whose take on “mika” is raw and very dense at once – it serves as the most brutal piece of music on the release. remix number two comes from “the mad ukrainian” stanislav tolkachev, whose vision strikes as a real surprise. instead of his usual beats stampede, he has provided the record with a beautiful, ethereal offbeat techno: this won t probably work as a peak time monster, but with a proper audience, it will have a mesmerizing effect!

in 1972 francois de roubaix and bernard maitre composed together the music of a tv series for children presented by puppets, called the onix. the musical oddity here released by weme records is a part of this ost. this piece of music demonstrates once again that francois de roubaix was in touch with all kinds of music of his time, including contemporary music. in this experimental track we can feel the influences of the composer pierre henry, an other explorer of unknown sounds. on the b side jodey kendrick makes his own interpretation of this music with current tech and sounds while keeping the atmosphere and fantasy of the original sound. attention non music !

shining bird frontman dane taylor serves up a beautiful piece of mellow beach pop, drenched in antipodean sunshine. this is made for sipping cold drinks under palm tree shade or swinging hammock dreams. the flip sees balearic commander in chief leo mas and his ever present colonel fabrice deliver a truly stunning piece of balearic chug. deep ambient textures capturing the essence of a smiley sunset. happy happy. uber hitting the balearic nail on the head once more.

a industrial callous, caustic and fervently cruel ep. contort yourself has once again gathered the best and boldest from past and present for its fourth ep. to begin with we have the grimacing visage of volition immanent, an intense live act made up of parrish smith and mark van de maat (knekelhuis). behind rawkish distortion, splintered beats and acrid bars screams a boiled anger, a track spitting on the divides of punk and electronics. nastiness is taken up a notch as noise ne er-do-wells zombies under stress take over. static is bent and doubled across thick chords and collapsed clap in the 1986 -maan zal zijn before the raw and raging battery of in onze tijd. l.i.e.s. regular svengalisghost grapples with maan zal zijn, channelling the originals rage into a mechanical monster. the 12inch is bookended with bite as mark forshaw (tabernacle/berceuse heroique) closes with the tortured and torrential thump of submission.

former co-owner of mr peabody infamous record store in chicago, exquisite music connoisseur, deep dj and fresh sounds familiar member mark grusane provides the next in the series of sf 45s. space mountain is a funk fusion monster while in fifth dimension mark shows his darker side pushing the electro/new wave envelope and even providing vocals. once again a sounds familiar winner and another demonstration of marks rich musical palette.
